Onform Launches Fast, Reliable, and Accessible Markerless 3D Motion Capture for Golf

September 30, 2025 – Onform, the fastest-growing and best-selling video analysis app for coaches, is excited to announce the launch of its new AI-powered 3D swing analysis feature for golf. This game-changing tool allows coaches and athletes to visualize swings in 3D and analyze detailed body metrics such as torso and hip rotation, forward and side bends along with pelvis & torso lift, thrust, and sway.

In just seconds, with just a single iPhone or iPad, coaches and athletes can generate a full 3D model from a face-on angle of a golf swing without using body markers or sensors. The swing can be captured from either a single camera (face-on) or with two devices for improved accuracy and dual angle viewing. Using Onform’s auto-detect recording mode, users don’t even need to press record, as Onform automatically detects the swing, records it into its own video clip, and computes all the 3D data. Best of all, it works without an internet connection.

“We believe objective data should be instantly accessible to every coach which unlocks new ways for them to analyze their players’ swings and design more effective training programs” said Gear Fisher, Co-founder of Onform. “Our focus was to provide fast, reliable, and easy access to data and insights for use on the range, in a studio, out on the course, in-person or remote.”

Tested Against Gold Standards

To ensure the highest level of accuracy, Onform built its own motion capture lab using state of the art OptiTrack technology which allowed them to train and test their AI models using lab-grade systems.

“We want coaches to trust what they see in Onform,” said Fisher. “That’s why we’ve methodically built and tested this feature under all types of settings, and made sure it matches the level of accuracy and ease of use that coaches would expect from us”. Onform’s AI team has comprehensively tested its AI models against other gold-standard 3D data systems, such as electromagnetic systems (EMS) and other optical markered systems to ensure our results are trust-worthy and reliable. “We’re proud of the world-class results we’ve obtained, and it’ll only get better from here”.  Unlike competitors, we encourage users to compare our model’s accuracy against their own lab-grade 3D systems and share the results.

Ease of Use Fully Integrated with the Onform Experience

The new 3D features work seamlessly with all of Onform’s existing tools. Coaches can review a 3D model side-by-side with 2D video for visual comparisons, draw directly on the 3D model, rotate it from any angle, and share personalized feedback to athletes using built-in voice-over and messaging tools. It’s a complete end-to-end coaching solution that brings more objective information to any golf coach. In addition, videos can be recorded in the app or imported from other sources for full analysis.

Perhaps the most important aspect of our 3D data roll-out, is the ability to configure Onform to automatically compute 3D for every swing, or a coach can choose to only compute 3D on certain swings. This key differentiator enables the coach to choose how and when they want to use 3D, without interrupting the flow of a lesson.

Free to All Coach Users for a Limited Time

All Onform coach subscribers will get full access to the 3D features during the initial launch period. The current monthly cost for coaches is $30/month after a 14-day free trial. Students connected to a coach get free access to the app. Later this year, 3D will be included in a new premium subscription tier. Support for additional sports and additional camera angles is also in progress and will be announced when available.
