How an Olympic Weightlifting Coach Uses Video to Stay Connected

Julia’s coaching philosophy centers on collaboration and communication. She takes a people-first approach, staying connected with her athletes and understanding that, as she puts it, “training doesn’t happen inside a vacuum.”

Searching for a Better Way to Coach

Before Onform, Julia’s video process was basic. She recorded lifts using screen capture tools, but the audio was poor and she couldn’t clearly show athletes what she wanted them to see. The feedback loop was functional, but not effective.

Another coach introduced her to a different video platform, but the experience wasn’t great for her athletes. That’s when she started looking for something better — something that made both communication and analysis simple.

Once she found Onform, Julia downloaded the app, started testing it, and quickly saw the difference. She became Onform’s first paying customer, and many years later, she’s still using it in her daily coaching.

Adapting to Remote Coaching

The increase in video submissions created a new challenge: staying organized. With Onform, that part of the process became easier. Every athlete has a dedicated chat and folder, allowing her to manage videos, track progress, and revisit old lifts whenever needed.

It’s much easier to stay organized now,” Julia says. “It’s also helpful to have a unique chat and folder for everybody so I can look back and pull video footage from months or years ago.”

Staying Connected Through Video

For Julia, video isn’t just about analyzing movement — it’s about maintaining connection. She uses Onform to give technical feedback and to check in with athletes personally, sending short videos or notes that remind them their coach is still there, even from a distance.

The side-by-side comparison feature has become one of her favorite tools. It lets her show athletes exactly how their technique has improved over time. It’s a simple way to visualize progress and reinforces that the work is paying off.

Why She’s Still Here

Julia has continued using Onform since that first sign-up because it makes coaching simpler and more personal. The app feels intuitive for both coaches and athletes, and when she’s needed support, the Onform team has always been quick to respond.

The app is intuitive for both coaches and athletes,” she says. “Their customer service is also incredibly quick and helpful.”

Julia’s advice to coaches considering video analysis is simple: “Absolutely do it. It shortens the learning curve for athletes and can create an additional source of income.”

For her, video has become more than a way to review technique. It’s a way to stay connected, improve communication, and help athletes grow, no matter where they’re training.

Julia was Onform’s first paying customer, but she’s far from the only coach who has built video into her routine. What keeps her coming back is what keeps many coaches here too: clear communication, easy organization, and simple tools that make coaching more effective.
