Changing Golfers, Not Golf Swings: How Onform Has Elevated My Coaching

One of the phrases I use most often with my students is, “We’re not changing golf swings — we’re changing golfers.”

Great coaching isn’t about putting every player into the same positions. It’s about understanding how each golfer moves, why the golf ball behaves the way it does, and creating a plan that’s unique to them.

Technology has become an incredible part of that process — but only when it helps simplify coaching, not complicate it. That’s exactly why I adopted Onform.

Movement Assessments Using Kinematic Sequence

Every golfer who spends an hour and forty-five minutes with me begins with a complete movement assessment. One of the first tools I use is Onform’s Kinematic Sequence. Within seconds, I can evaluate how the pelvis, torso, lead arm, and club accelerate and decelerate throughout the swing.

Those four segments tell an incredible story about how efficiently a player transfers energy and creates speed.

What immediately stood out to me about Onform was how seamless the coaching experience is for golf instruction. I can record swings, review the Kinematic Sequence, compare swings side-by-side, draw directly on the video, add voiceovers, organize lesson notes, and communicate with my players — all from one platform. Everything I need is right there, allowing me to spend less time navigating software and more time coaching.

The Kinematic Sequence is one of the most valuable tools I use because it helps me identify movement patterns almost immediately. Rather than focusing on isolated swing positions, I’m evaluating how the body functions as a complete system.

I then combine those insights with Smart2Move force plate data, where I evaluate pressure movement, ground reaction forces, and torque production. Looking at lead-side pressure together with pelvis and torso rotation tells me an incredible amount about where a player’s low point is likely to occur.

In many cases, I can predict strike quality before the club even reaches the golf ball. When those movement patterns improve, consistent contact often follows naturally.

Constantly Critiquing Your Coaching Tech and Tools

Over the past several years, I’ve also been developing my own proprietary AI-assisted coaching algorithm. By blending the Kinematic Sequence with force plate data, high-speed video, and ball-flight information, I can recognize patterns faster and coach with greater precision.

Technology isn’t replacing coaching. It allows me to spend more time teaching and less time searching for answers.

One philosophy I’ve always believed in is that coaches should regularly reevaluate the technology they use. Every six to eight months, I take a hard look at my entire coaching ecosystem:

  • My cameras
  • My coaching platform
  • My computer systems
  • Every piece of technology that supports the lesson experience

The reason is simple: Our players deserve our best. If a better tool allows me to communicate more clearly, analyze more efficiently, or create a better learning experience, then it’s worth making the change.

Why Onform Is My Preferred Coaching Platform

If you’re going to embrace technology-based coaching, I believe you have a responsibility to use the very best tools available. For me, Onform has become that standard.

Onform has streamlined every aspect of my coaching process, from capturing swings and analyzing movement to communicating with players after the lesson. It allows me to focus on what matters most — helping golfers improve.

Technology will continue to evolve, and as coaches, we should evolve with it. Staying current isn’t about chasing the newest gadget. It’s about continually asking whether the tools you’re using today are still the best tools to help your players improve tomorrow.

At the end of the day, the technology itself is simply a tool. The golfer is always the priority.

Because we’re not just in the business of changing golf swings. We’re changing golfers.
